Buckeye trees are famous trees in the United States especially in Ohio state. As the official state tree which can represent many things in this state, these trees are known for special appearance of nuts and their foliage. They have compound leaves which are composed of a few leaflets from the center of the stem. These leaflets will change their colors in autumn, making them a good view in your autumn garden.
Buckeye nuts are important products which are often used to identify the tree variety. They are very similar to the eye of a deer and normally produced in the harvesting season. These nuts are bit of poisonous to animals and human being if consumed untreated. These nuts are often used by Ohio residents as a sign of good luck before important events. Currently, there are many famous people and events are named after the name of buckeyes such as the famous Buckeye football team.
If you are planning to plant some buckeye nut trees in your garden, you need to do some preparation beforehand. The seeds should be put in the damp peat moss for a few weeks before sowing into the soil until the roots have successfully grown. You should plant the seeds in a location with partial shade instead of full sunlight. Apply adequate water for your trees during the first several weeks to help them establish their roots. The ideal time to plant your trees is in autumn so that they have adequate time to get established before winter. Some mulching materials should be applied to your need seedlings to preserve the moisture, and organic mulching material are preferred. Since they will enter their dormant period in winter, you should stop watering them at the end of autumn.
